When I think of brown cardigans, I clearly remember the well-worn 60s variety that my father wore on the day he took me to the Brisbane Royal National Show. It had ornate, round wooden buttons and was warm, cosy and comfortable. When I found the Brown Cardigan café in the Paddington Shopping Village, I wondered whether this urban space would be just as warm and comfortable as the woollen variety that I so loved. Well, I wasn't disappointed.

Bringing the outdoors in
The vibe of this inner city café is funky and edgy, with a healthy dose of urban chic. It's easy to get wrapped up aqua, bright yellow and clean white colour palette. When walking up to the Brown Cardigan, the first thing I noticed was the outdoor space which looks like an internal atrium. Raw, wooden crates have been converted into a creative green oasis housing a range of leafy ferns and resilient succulents which resemble an indoor garden. Everyone needs some green space. The crates also have the effect of framing the shop to look like a modern, picket fence. Wooden tables are offset with bright yellow steel chairs. The indoor seating and counter area is cosy with a full-length poster wall for interest.

What's on the menu?
The Brown Cardigan offers classic breakfast favourites including wraps (brekky, Hawaiian and deluxe), bacon and egg burger, salads (halloumi, and chicken pesto) and avo smash deluxe. Food aside, my favourite, however, is the drinks menu with special shakes made on chocolate bar favourites - Oreo, Maltesers, Mars Bar and Cherry Ripe. The Brown Cardigan has its own house blend coffee bean to give it an individual stamp and coffees are served with a petite chocolate freckle on the side of the plate. The childhood memories just keep on coming.

If you can't make it into the shop orders can be made through "uber eats" so that food emergencies can be is averted and conveniently delivered to your door.

Oh yeah, and…..
It can sometimes be hard to find a café open after 3pm, so I was glad to find that the Brown Cardigan doesn't close its doors until 4pm during weekdays. Parking is available underneath the complex and at the back of the Shopping Centre. Brown Cardigan gift vouchers might be the perfect present for that special café connoisseur. To recall or create your own memories, I would suggest you get your cardi on and visit the Brown Cardigan.
