Buy second hand books, with money going back to charity
As individuals choose digital copies of their favourite fiction and non-fiction books to download on their kindles, iPads and smart phones, it is sad to think that printed books may soon be a thing of the past.

Maybe I'm a little slow off the mark, but I'm yet to download a book, preferring instead to read printed pages in my hand.

Occasionally I'll buy a new book, I definitely make use of my local library, but most of the time, I'll find second hand books in op shops, trash and treasure markets or borrow from friends.

I tend to scour preloved book shelves for children's stories, and cooking books, with the occasional fictional story that catches my eye.

Recently, I visited The Brotherhood of St Laurence community stores warehouse facility in Brunswick. This is not open to the general public, but I have worked closely with the op shop chain, so had an opportunity to go 'behind the scenes'.

As I walked through the warehouse, I noticed a library of donated books, filed away according to genre. These preloved books are now part of The Brotherhood of St Laurence's online book sales site 'Brotherhood Books'.

Brotherhood Books is a Social Enterprise, encouraging the donation and recycling of high quality books, which are sold via their website. 100% of the profits are put back into Brotherhood's charitable operations, helping disadvantaged people build better lives.

I wonder why I've not searched through the Brotherhood Books online site before? It's high time I did.

As I search through 'Children's Books' I find pages and pages of second hand books available to buy, ranging from approximately $3-$9. When clicking on a book you might like, you'll find the Authors name, a book description, ISBN, year of publication, and condition of the book. You'll also notice books are given a rating out of 5 stars.

Orders of 1 or 2 books are charged at $6.00 per order, however, for the month of March, Brotherhood Books are offering free shipping on orders of three books or more.

I'd recommend having a browse through Brotherhood Books if you're looking for a particular book to buy, you can search by Author, ISBN, subject, keyword, title or browse through genre.

Brotherhood Books certainly makes it easier to find a second hand book from the comfort of your own home, at the same time you'll know the money you pay for your preloved book will also be going back to a good cause.

That's the largest 2nd hand bookshop I've seen. It looks like a library. Since it is online, is that their warehouse?

Textbooks for Uni - Not sure, but worth having a look, try searching for the title in the search box?
