Summer is almost upon us, which means blue sky days, loads of sunshine and, for most people, weekend trips to the Gold Coast. This year, instead of swimming and sunbaking, why not learn how to surf?
For an authentic surfing experience, you can't beat
Broadbeach Surf School (
16 Chelsea Avenue, Broadbeach). The director and all of their instructors are not only dedicated surfers – they're also Gold Coast locals, so you'll benefit from their expertise in both arenas. As well as learning to surf, you'll also receive instruction on surfing etiquette and how to remain safe in the water.
The school provides a choice of surfing courses, which take between six to twelve weeks, and lessons, which last from one to two hours. There are four different courses dedicated to various age groups, with prices starting at $145.00 for the 12 week Beach Kids course. For more personal, intensive instruction, there are group lessons (which last an hour and a half) or private lessons (which last one to two hours.) Lessons cater to all ranges of experience.
For the full surfie experience, you might like to spend a couple of nights at the Broadbeach Surf School Beach House, which offers queen or bunk rooms with shared facilities and a live in caretaker.
Broadbeach Surf School is open seven days a week and welcomes all ages and abilities.
