If you've ever seen the show Man v Food , you'll understand the entertainment value in watching someone consume an extra spicy or extra large meal. Crazy Americans, you might think, but it turns out that we can be just as crazy. You don't have to look too far to find a range of insane meal challenges determined to test your mettle – and your stomach. Here are some that I've found.

World's Hottest Chilli Burger at Off the Wall Dinner
The challenge: Finish the World's Hottest Chilli Burger to get your name on the Wall of Fame.

The Scoville scale is used for measuring heat in food. At the lower end you've got mild peppers like capsicum, which rate 0. On the other end there's law enforcement grade pepper spray, which runs between 1.5 and 2 million. From what I hear, the World's Hottest Chilli Burger is about a billion.

The burger is pretty standard – bun, meat patty, lettuce – plus an addition delightfully named Megadeath Sauce. It also comes with a set of gloves, to prevent burning. For an extra $2.50 you can purchase the Megadeath Recovery Kit, which consists of milk and yoghurt, but if you end up using it you don't get your name on the wall.

In the interest of full disclosure I'm going to link to this Supersized Meals article that describes one man's experience with the burger but I'll also warn you that it's really, really not safe for work.

Off the Wall Diner is located on Main Road, Wellington Point.

The Half Metre Kebab Challenge at Bayside Kebabs
The challenge: Finish the half metre kebab and get it free.

Weekend Notes writer Julian Groneberg details this challenge in his review of the best kebab shops in Brisbane . Yep, it's half a metre long and it weighs about two kilos. Try tackling that one on your way home from the pub.

The Half Metre Kebabs can be found at Bayside Burgers on 9 Elizabeth Ave, Clontarf.

sSs Beef Shank Challenge at sSs BBQ Barns
The challenge: Finish one entree and the 2.4 kilo Beef Shank and receive a free dessert and your name on the wall.

I know what you're thinking – who wants dessert after consuming more than two kilograms of meat? But you also get your name on the wall.

Diners who tackle the Beef Shank challenge are allowed to choose their own entree, then must complete the entire main including all sides. The star attraction is a huge beef shank glazed with barbeque sauce, slow cooked, and finished on the grill. Due to the lengthy preparation involved, it's recommended that you call ahead.

If you've heard of any I've missed, let us know about it in the comments below.
