It's October, the month of ghouls and witches. And what better way to scare the family (as well as throw in some local history) than with a ghost tour of some of Brisbane's most haunted sites? But beware; ghostly presences have been seen and heard on these tours.

Ghost Tours Brisbane was established in 1998 by local horror historian Jack Sims, and combines creepy adventures through historic (and possibly hanuted) sites, while throwing in wonderfully creepy storytelling by excellent 'ghost hosts' who really get into character. And for any Underbelly fans, there are also 'Crime Tours' that operate, highlighting where some of Brisbane history's bloodiest and most horrible crimes have been committed.

There is a lot of choice when it comes to booking your tour; pick between the 'Haunted Brisbane Tour', a 90 minute walking tour which takes the group into haunted sites in the CBD while recapping true and researched tales of horror, including after hours access to the Brisbane Arcade. There is also the option for a two and a half hour coach tour of the CBD which includes entails visits and stories of the ghost of Victoria Bridge, and a haunted tower.

But for those looking for a truly good scare, consider
Haunted Brisbane
South Brisbane Cemetery
Haunted Brisbane
Ipswich Cathedral
taking one of the haunted site tours of the Brisbane cemeteries, such as the South Brisbane Cemetery (near Dutton Park), the Ipswich Cemetery, or (my personal favourite for scaring the pants off visiting guests), the Toowong Cemetery. These are all walking tours through necropolis, true cities of the dead.

The great thing is that Ghost Tours do not rely on tacky props or actors jumping out from behind trees to scare you; they don't need them. These tours are truly spine chilling!

And for those people looking to do something to celebrate Halloween this year, be quick as Ghost Tours are offering Halloween special tours to Newstead House (hosted by Jack Sims himself) and Nundah Cemetery.

Most tours run weekly and always begin once the sun goes down. Prices start from $17.50 upwards, with concession rates for seniors, pensioners, and university students. Check ou www.ghost-tours.com.au for bookings and information on tours, including what to expect and what you may need to bring; believe me, a torch isn't such a bad idea!
