After a very successful debut last year,
The Brisbane Comedy Festival is returning from 23rd February to 21st March and promises to be bigger and better this year.
Homegrown talent will take centre stage this year with headline acts familiar to most households.
Adam Hills takes top billing. His "
Mess Around" pretty much does exactly what it says on the tin. He'll dedicate just over an hour to ad-libbing and simply messing around.
Peter Helliar makes a return to stand-up after a two year hiatus. Not much information has been released about the show "
Dreamboat Tour" as yet but, if the poster is anything to go by, it will involve blazers and cravats.
Also performing new shows are
Wil Anderson and
Frank Woodley.
Brisbane is well represented this year. Despite appearing on pretty much every TV program in the last twelve months, local boy
Josh Thomas is returning home with a show called "
Surprise!"
Greg Sullivan and
Harley Breen will be flying the flag for Brisbane as well with their shows "
Antisexual" and "
Personal Space" respectively.
It's not all Australian talent though with plenty of International acts as well. Leading the way for the overseas talent is
Jason Byrne. The Irishman is returning to Oz after a sell-out international tour, bringing a completely new show to these shores. Byrnes' performances are sure to be off the wall and very popular so may sell out fast.
Making its Brisbane debut this year is "
Best of the Edinburgh Fest."
The Edinburgh Fringe Festival has been the catalyst for so many comedians to make a name for themselves it's actually a bit scary.
Name 5 well-known comedians and you are guaranteed that at least one of them made their break in Edinburgh. In fact both Adam Hills and Wil Anderson made names for themselves after Edinburgh shows.
All shows will be held at
The Powerhouse at New Farm. Tickets are from $10. Big names are likely to sell out quick.
