Chalk the Walk

What an absolutely thought-provoking idea, to remember and honour all the babies, children and young adults on the Sunshine Coast who have been taken too early, due to illness or tragic circumstances, this beautiful Memorial has been erected in Buderim Lions Park as a dedication to these lives lost - the memories of these children will always shine brightly like stars.

Opinion is, that the pathways surrounding this beautiful Memorial are lacking in colour and vibrancy (a bit like chalk and cheese), so on Sunday, 31 July 2016 between 9.00am and 12.00 midday, Team Adem are hosting a Chalk Walk at Buderim Lions Park with an open invitation to everybody and anybody who would like to participate; bring the family, bring the children, it's going to be a fun-filled morning. Depending on this year's success of Chalk the Walk, this might become an annual event.

Team Adem which only started in February 2011 have become one of Australia's most successful fundraisers during the World's Greatest Shave Event held every year. Since 2011 Team Adem and it's supporters have grown, raising just on $600 000 for the Leukaemia Foundation, helping many patients and families affected by a blood cancer diagnosis. Team Adem's greatest achievement so far has been the Team Adem Blood Donation Community (TABDC), which has saved over 30 000 lives since 2013. Team Adem is run by a committee of dedicated volunteers who all have one goal…to help others!

The concept behind the Chalk Walk is to leave a message of love, hope and inspiration, whether it be a chalk message or a chalk drawing to commemorate a special someone. A container of chalk will be available for a gold coin donation. (C'mon kids, this is your opportunity to shine and 'chalk' wherever you walk)

As part of the morning's activities, the official unveiling of the "Bright Stars" Memorial will take place. Sausage sizzle and soft drink will be available to purchase. All funds raised on this special Memorial day will go towards equipment in the paediatric emergency department in the new Sunshine Coast University Hospital, which is due to open in April next year.

And the good news is the drawings will be left on the pathways for a week after the event (thank you Sunshine Coast Council) , for everybody to enjoy!
