Becoming bored and unsure of what to do at night, now that the sun is shying away earlier and the coldness is keeping you indoors?

Well, I have been dealing with this issue for the past few weeks, however fortunately I have been blessed with friends of a cultural and artistic nature who really enjoy a night at the theatre. So last Wednesday evening I was seated in cabaret style at the Brisbane Powerhouse for the opening night of Briefs: The Second Coming.

If anyone has ever heard of this Brisbane bred somewhat gender confused but very talented performance group, then you know what to expect. But I had no such idea and can proudly say I was blown away by a 90 minute show of extreme talent, dedication, humour, shock, amazement and arousal.

From the moment the performance began, the audience was impressed with an amazingly choreographed dance performance. All performers dressed in black paraded around the stage utilising large feathers. But the most crowd pleasing part of this dance routine was when the room went black for a split second to only find their leotards and feathers were glow in the dark!

After the opening performance kicked off, the leader of Briefs took the initiative of welcoming the crowd and introducing the show. Even this simple introduction came with an element of surprise. The crowd was asked to take a moment to respect and recognise the land we were all standing on by loudly planting our feet on the ground. This was a thoughtful gesture and represented the only serious part of the night as trashy sequins and circus tricks followed.

The highlight of my night, as well as all the girls in the audience, was the new member of Briefs, Louis. The pretty, well tanned, muscular fresh faced straight guy was definitely the main attraction as he showed himself off with a circus performance involving only hats and a hat stand, amazed the crowd with his strength by balancing two grown men on his shoulders, and stripping down to a man g-string where one lucky winner got to drink a tequila shot off his almost naked body! Now if that hasn't got all the ladies excited for a night out at the Brisbane Powerhouse or chasing around the Briefs as they hit up Melbourne and then the UK I dunno what will.
