Every now and then you come across a hidden little oasis. I love the delight finding such a treasure brings and so on a wet, winter's day, out bike riding and needing a warm cup of tea I ventured into Bridges Cafe.

Just outside of Hurstbridge, it's located in a picturesque country setting and looks somewhat non-eventful from the front: in fact, I had to check as it seemed closed.

Venturing in, you will be greeted with a huge open fireplace (hopefully roaring away in winter), a very spacious dining area with small play room for the kids and lovely bush setting views. It's become one on my favourite stops offs when riding.

The food I've had here has always been great, whether its a cuppa and a slice of incredibly decadent cake or a full meal. The dip platter was filled with crunchy breads and 3 different piles of dips which was enough to nibble on for 5 of us.

The bruschetta came on 5 large pieces of bread for under $10 and looking around at what others were eating, everything looked pretty good.

During the week it's an oasis of peace, although maybe not so now that I've shared the secret.

There's a fully licensed bar and if parmigiana is your preference they offer an entire parmachameleon menu.

Breakfast is good with a reasonable selection and prices tend to range for $4-$10.50 which is great value.

Venturing outdoors it is based in a garden centre where you can wander through the nursery and collect some garden art or plants, there's also a small selection of gift wares.
