The comes to Melbourne for the first time this year, bringing with it a distinctly South American flavour. Running from the 27th to 30th October, the festival will screen short and feature films from acclaimed directors whose stories come from all corners of Brazil.

The opening night film will be 'Lula, the son of Brazil', which has been nominated for a Best Foreign Language Film Oscar, and has garnered a reputation as one of the most expensive films ever made in Brazil. It tells the true story of Brazil's president Luiz InĂ¡cio Lula da Silva, who rose from poverty as a shoeshine boy in outback Brazil, to gain the support of an entire nation. The screening will also feature guest speakers.

Other features include 'Love Stories Only Last 90 Minutes', focusing on Zecca, a young writer living in bohemian Rio, and 'Pachmama', a reflective documentary on Brazilians who have previously been cut-off politically from the rest of the country. It's advisable to book tickets online to avoid disappointment. Single tickets are $12 (plus an online booking fee) or you can buy in a group of 10 for discounted tickets.

The festival will end with a unique cabaret party at One Thousand Pound Bend, inspired by the closing night documentary. 'Dzi Croquettes' focuses on the wacky dance-theatre troupe of the 1960s who spawned a cultural movement and revolutionized Brazilian dance and theatre forever. The night will also feature performances, cocktails and guest DJs so you can dance and enjoy yourself in true Brazilian spirit.
