Your boss. Traffic. Fuel prices. The guy at work who only leaves enough milk for half a coffee. Whatever it is that stirs your pot, there is no better way to let off steam than unleashing your wrath on a big, defenceless punching bag.
Fortunately Perth has plenty of great boxing fitness venues perfect for any boxer from beginner to advanced.
Other than the fantastic central location, the great thing about Live Fitness is every boxing class is run by REAL boxers. The high intensity of the classes means you get the perfect workout to lose weight, tone up, and get tough. The Boxing For Fitness classes are non-contact with an even mix of girls and guys. These classes run throughout the week, along with power bar (resistance training to music), yoga, circuit, and boxing technique classes. There is also a gym upstairs.
Owned by professional boxer and boxing promoter Ty Coleman, Competitive Boxing & Fitness offers boxing for fitness classes, as well as fitness circuit, technique boxing, MMA conditioning, and Kids Boxing Technique Training (8-12yo). These classes are designed to help you sweat it out, with serious results. Download a voucher from the website for a free trial session.
It doesn't matter where you live or work, because LIVe BoxFit has 60 classes in 13 locations across the Perth metro area. Once you purchase a series of sessions, just use the easy online booking system to register for the classes you'll be attending. They also offer free trial classes so you can see if it's the right class for you. Held outdoors with a circuit set-up, these classes are a fun, challenging and social way to get into boxing.
Their moto is 'train with the pros without the blows'. With a 20 year career in boxing, Boxing For Fitness owner David Letizia is both a coach and trainer at the gym. With training from actual boxers, you're guaranteed to improve your fitness while learning new skills. There are no contracts so you can pay and box as you go.
These are just a few of the many boxing venues across Perth, but you can see a full list of locations at AussieBox.
While some venues will provide the equipment you require for the intial classes, it's always a good idea to purchase your own wraps and gloves so you're working with the correct fit (also it's nice to know that the only sweaty hand that's been inside the glove is your own). Many sporting stores will stock everything you'll need to get started, including Slater Gartrell Sports, Rebel Sports and GIRI.
So if you want to get fit, learn a new skill, or picture your least favourite work colleague while you pound out your frustrations - boxing covers all bases. Who knows, you may even be the next Rocky in the making...
