Borough Market has been supplying Londoners with nutritious nibbles for over 250 years. As London’s oldest and best-known food market, Borough has earned a deserved reputation as being the place to go for all things foodie.
With locals, tourists and top chefs popping along on a Saturday morning for their groceries, the place is positively buzzing and it’s best to get there early if you’re planning a serious shopping trip. You’ll get the opportunity to try before you buy, with many stall holders only too happy to let you have a little taster of their wares before you dip into your pocket. Be warned though – you will love pretty much everything you pop in your mouth and a trip to Borough Market can play havoc with your wallet.
With everything from wild boar sausages to artisan breads and cheeses, this really is an assault on all the senses. However, if it all gets a bit much, there are plenty of cafes in and around the market where you can rest your legs, put down your shopping and enjoy a coffee while watching the world go by.
The market is located about five minutes’ walk from London Bridge station and you can combine your visit with a leisurely stroll along the Southbank. There are plenty of overland train and underground rail links, so it’s accessible from all parts of the city.
