Bobbin Head is a really pretty spot

Bobbin Head is located in the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, just over 30kms north of Sydney. It is a great spot for a family day out as well as a perfect "escape the city" type destination, with not too much driving involved. In fact, you can even take a return ferry there from Palm Beach, read more here. Arriving by car, entry to the National Park is $12 per vehicle and, once inside, you will find ample parking.

Situated along the Cowan Creek

The Bobbin Head Picnic Area sits on Cowan Creek , surrounded by great views, walking tracks, lots of amenities, kids playground, eateries, paddle boat hire and an award winning Marina. You feel will feel a world away from the city while also having everything you need at your fingertips. Bobbin Head has a lot to offer but is also a short drive away from Westfields Hornsby.

The Bobbin Inn Cafe is in an historic building

There are two cafes/restaurants to choose from, alternatively, you can picnic or have a BBQ. There is lots of undercover seating, shelters and shady trees to lounge under, while a couple of the bigger ones can be booked for parties. We chose to have lunch at the Bobbin Inn Café which is in an historic building with lots of character. It has indoor and outdoor seating and the menu consists of burgers, salads, steak, and other hot meals. They also serve an all day breakfast, have some pretty decent desserts and are BYO. Click here for the full menu, however, the stunning location is the drawcard here. Open 6 days a week, you will also find the tourist information centre inside.

Just across the bridge from the Bobbin Inn Café is the Paddle Boat Hire where you can hire 2 or 4 seater paddle boats at $25 and $35 respectively for half an hour. We didn't get very far in half an hour but it was fun (and a great leg workout). The paddle boats are available weekends and all public holidays 11am - 5pm.

Paddle Boating is fun and a great workout

Down at Empire Marina sits Galley Foods Eatery, a licensed venue serving a wide variety of burgers, rolls, fish and chips and more. There is also live music on Saturdays and great views to be had. They are open 7 days and we will try this one next trip. You can even hire a "tinny" here starting at $80 for 2 hours. Next time.

The kids are well looked after with a massive fenced kids playground. It was a hit with my boy who quickly made loads of friends to play with while we relaxed after lunch and our paddle boat leg workout. For further information about Bobbin Head, please click here.

Wow, it certainly has changed since I went there years ago. Time for another visit, I think. Great article.

A lovely spot to picnic with family n friends. Though the hire fees are excessive at $25/35 for half an hour makes it expensive for a family added to entry fees as well.
