Portside Christian College is proudly presenting their end of year youth exhibition at ASSP Gallery Port Adelaide.Entitled 'Bits & Pieces', the exhibition will open to the public on Friday 25th November 2016 at 6pm with the annual ASSP Youth Awards presentation. All are welcome to come and view this exciting showcase of 2D and 3D artworks, including computer animation created by students from Reception to Year 12.
The 2016 ASSP Youth Awards celebrate aspiring young artists and will be presented by Councillor Helen Wright (Semaphore Ward) and Steve Smart (President of Rotary Port Adelaide). With 189 entries by young artists aged 5 to 9 years to choose from, it was a huge challenge for the three judges to decide on this year's ASSP Youth Award winners.SALA 2016 artist Dianne Vanstone, who was one of this year's judges, was impressed with the talent of the children and ended up donating a merit prize to the runner-up for their bold choice of colour. BankSA on St Vincent Street and Flinders Ports, Port Adelaide were also appointed as judges.
First Prize winners will receive trophies donated by "Engraving Services Co", South Australia's multi-award winning company. The Second and Third Prize winners will be awarded with vouchers and art supplies kindly donated by Port Adelaide businesses. For this year's exhibition, Portside Christian College asked children to paint their interpretation of 'Ships at the Port River'. Guided by their art teacher, Keera Lokteff, the children also created a giant replica of 'Noah's Ark' at more than 60 centimetres long. The 'Bits & Pieces' exhibition features the winning artworks and non-winning artworks will be displayed in a public folder, complemented by the 'Noah's Ark' sculpture which was constructed with precision and patience.Following the launch event, the exhibition will be open daily (except Saturday 26th November) from 12pm to 5pm until 6th December 2016.All are welcome to visit the ASSP Gallery Port Adelaide and view the diverse range of works by Portside Christian College's budding artists.
