We are all after the secrets of youth. We are always looking for new and easier ways to stay fit and healthy. One week we decide avocado's have good fat, the next they're bad for us so we steer clear. We buy in to machines that come with a 250 page manual just to explain operation, but apparently our thighs will love us for it.

Well I hope that what I am about to tell you doesn't get shelved, because I genuinely believe this is one of the best forms of exercise and strengthening in existence. No pain, no gain, right? Well, I can promise you there will be pain, but the gain is so well worth. I am almost certain after 10 days at Bikram yoga, you will throw in your gym towel and stock up on a Yoga mat and passes.
I say this because after 10 days you can actually see your body changing. You will see your body do things you never thought possible. For those who don't know, Bikram Yoga is a series of 26 postures which stretch and strengthen specific parts of the body, in order to prevent illness and injury, promote weight loss, and limit the effects of ageing.
Seems harmless? What I haven't told you, is that the room is heated to 38 degrees. This warms up the body and assists in circulation, and causes a serious sweat.
The first time I attended this class, I stood next to a woman who was like a human waterfall. The sweat was dripping from her arms but her strength and concentration amazed me. I got through my first session without stopping, but I think the fact that I had taken a 6 week Ashtanga Yoga course prior made it a little easier.
And I sweat. Boy did I sweat. But as painful as it was, the detoxifying feeling and release over powered any pain I was encountering.
The postures in Bikram Yoga stay the same, so you get to know the order and can really perfect your form. For those who may think it, Yoga isn't all Om's and stretching. It's a time in which you can give your body, in particular your muscles the release they need after daily activities. The concentration will take your mind away from all your worries, and you can use this time as some well needed 'you' time.
And if that hasn't convinced you, the warm room temperature compared to the dreary world outside should.
