You know when you make a meal decision based more on curiosity rather than logical thought on what you think you will enjoy eating?

That sums up my choice of doughnut from Big Lou's Donuts in Brunswick Street. Fond childhood memories of a sweet Fruit Loops breakfast had me excited to try this doughy creation.

And while I certainly do not regret it, my sugar tolerance is not what it once was when I was 8 years old. I found the combination of a sugary cereal with icing a bit too sweet for me, and the fruit loops themselves were a tad stale. That probably was not helped by the fact that is was late in the night when I made the purchase.

But the dough of the doughnut was very nice. Soft and airy and not too sweet. And given the creative choices on the menu, I would certainly go back for another try the next time I'm in the area. You have your pick of everything from bacon and cheese doughnuts, to cookies and cream flavoured, to your more traditional flavours. More than enough to have Homer Simpson frothing at the mouth.
