The town was awash with excitement as the new establishment waited to open its doors. The Big Dog Diner already had a bustling storefront in Frankston and the images they shared on their Facebook page had our mouths watering.
On the opening weekend, they sold out of chicken wings and had cars parked practically on the road to get some of their delicious food.
The American-styled restaurant focuses on quick and delicious service. Specialising in hotdogs and making a mean burger they are stepping up the takeaway options in Bendigo.
The main difference that they bring to the table is their extended opening hours. Whilst a lot of the food offerings in our small town are closed by 9pm and don't open until 11.30am the next day, this diner is practically open all the time.
During the week they open at 5.30am and don't close the doors until 11pm. On the weekend they are open all the way until midnight. This might not sound special to those of you who have the pleasure and choice afforded to those who live in the capital cities, but in our small town this changes things.
Recently, I had the pleasure of getting some delicious food to take away. During our trip there we got a range of their different food groups. Everything was great - from their specialty all-beef frankfurt 'dirty dog', through to their buffalo wings doused in hot sauce.
Their combos were mega-affordable with the choice of water, soft drink, a milkshake or a thick shake with your fries. A large dinner for two came in at just under $30.
Check into their Facebook page to get access to their ridiculous specials like $5 hot dogs or $2 pancakes after 9pm.
All in all, this new establishment is a welcome addition to the Bendigo landscape. Located slightly out of town, this diner is well worth the short trek.
