I've been avoiding Street maroochydore&hnear=Ocean St, Maroochydore Queensland 4558&gl=au&t=m&z=16 Ocean Street in Maroochydore for a long time because I didn't think there was much there. I've always found it to be oddly quiet, which probably explains why it took me a bit longer than usual to discover . This stylish venue has the feel of a capital city bar or cafe in the relaxed atmosphere of the Sunshine Coast - it really is the best of both worlds.

I was immediately impressed as soon as I walked in the front doors of Bica. It had such a welcoming feel about it - it certainly stands out as well in an otherwise quiet part of town. It may sound odd, but one of the first things I noticed about Bica was that there was plenty of space between each table, you wouldn't be bumping into the person sitting behind you here.

I stopped by for breakfast recently with a group of friends. The menu had plenty to choose from - breaking it up into fruits/grains/seeds, eggs, and sourdough toast. The Aussie Eggs (poached, scrambled or fried), bacon, sausage, roast tomato, potato hash, mushroom and toast ($20) caught my eye immediately - I was famished and this looked to be the biggest item on the menu, and I wasn't wrong.

The coffee as well was enormous. I ordered a cappuccino in a mug - looked more like a soup mug to me. It was delicious but because of its size it lost a bit of the strength to it, then again I was never expecting it to be that massive. Next time I'll ask for an extra shot.

The meal itself was a real winner for me - and for everyone else around the table. My friends all went for the same item, poached egg, potato has, baby spinach and truffled hollandaise ($15). It was vegetarian and gluten free, which was good to see and they all gave it the thumbs up.

There were a couple of other things here that just made Bica stand out for me - the design was one, it was very contemporary. They also had a set of couches set up with some reading material. It looked like the perfect place to meet up with a friend for coffee and cake. Again, very welcoming.

was surprising, because I didn't think Ocean Street had that much to offer. Thankfully, I've been proven wrong and I look forward to trying out the dinner menu.
