While waffles and pancakes are often found on the same menus, a waffle is a lot more than just a strangely shaped pancake. They're crunchy and soft at the same time, and covered with lots of grooves to soak up any sauces, syrups, or ice cream you choose to add. In Adelaide waffles have long been a staple on the dessert circuit, but there are also plenty of daytime waffle spots popping up around the place. Where are your favourite waffles in Adelaide?



Waffle's Waffle and Coffee may be Adelaide's only dedicated waffle store. You'll find them on Leigh Street in the city. Their bright bubbly decor helps make eating waffles here fun. Waffles start at under $5, so it's easy to eat cheap too. Top your waffles with ice cream, chocolate, fruit, cream or nuts, or work out a combination of all your favourites. Waffle's serve both Belgian and Leige waffles, and the slightly richer Liege Waffles are delicious.

Another place dedicated to waffles isn't actually a place at all. La Waffle is part of the growing number of mobile food vendors across the city. You'll often find them set up next to Adelaide's favourite food truck, Burger Theory, but La Waffle deserve a long line of their own. If you've ever made your own waffles at home you may not think they're that special, but a boring mixture into a waffle does not a waffle make. There are some pretty boring waffle mixtures going around, but the waffles at La Waffle are rich, flavoursome, and have the perfect hint of sweetness. You can even grab a bag to take home for later.

Of course plenty of other places around Adelaide have waffles on their menu. They're found at many dessert cafes and chocolate cafes like Chocolate Tree, Aviary, Sugarbowl, and Sweety. They also have a pretty prominent place at Spats, one of Adelaide's most iconic dessert venues. During the day they're on the menu at cafes, as an indulgent option for breakfast or brunch. Try them at the Pantry on Egmont - waffles topped with blackberry butter, maple syrup, and of course some ice cream.
