With many vibrant Vietnamese communities throughout Melbourne, it is no surprise that one of their tastes lunch options is popping up all over the city. Bánh mì thit means meat roll, although commonly they're referred to as a pork roll or Vietnamese roll. This is one of the most flavour packed roll or sandwich you can get, but with so many stores it can sometimes be hard to find out which one is the best. We want to know your opinions on where we'll find Melbourne's best pork roll.

Traditionally a pork roll will be served in crunchy Vietnamese bread, the kind that shatters as you bite into it showering you in a crusty snow. The fillings vary, while many call them pork rolls you can often find a range of flavours, each one delicious. They are then filled with paté, mayonnaise, coriander, carrot, cucumber, sometimes radish, and sometimes, though not traditionally, lettuce and tomato. The flavour is doubled by added chilli and the 'special' sauce that is added right at the end.

We've heard some good things about a few places in Melbourne, but one in particular is Nhu Lan bakery, where their bread is extra crunchy and their fillings flavourful. They can be found in Footscray, along with a couple of other strong contenders Ba Le and To's.

Some other places great for grabbing a roll are Saigon Bakery or Huong Huong, both in Richmond. If you're out searching for a pork roll, then keep an eye out for any Vietnamese bakeries you may pass. While they don't always advertise, it isn't uncommon to find a roll station inside.

Whether you're adding chicken, pork, or going for the vegetarian option, there is no doubt that these Vietnamese delicacies make a delicious meal. The Vietnamese French fusion is usually sold in street carts around Vietnamese cities, but in Australia it's to the bakeries and meat roll stores that you'll have to head.

We know there are some delicious options out there, so fill us in on the best and the worst of Melbourne's bánh mì bakeries.
