A guide to the best houses and streets in the suburbs
Last year's overall winner at Abbeyfeale Street, Tingalpa

Nothing spreads Christmas cheer more and promotes seasonal festivity than lighting your house and front yard up like a super-sized Christmas tree for neighbours and others passing by to enjoy. For those wishing to spread festivity in the suburbs, Brisbane radio station 4KQ is again running its Brisbane Christmas Lights competition with many categories to enter, including best unit/townhouse, best use of logos, and best commercial business display. To enter, download the entry form here, and this year it could be your name up in lights (so to speak) with winners honourably mentioned for spreading festive spirit in the local community. All entries must be submitted by 5pm November 23, with winners announced December 6 on 4KQ and published in a special Courier Mail feature.

For those wishing to appreciate the hard work of others in their community and view some of the best Christmas light displays across the four corners of the city of Brisbane, I have compiled a list of the best streets and areas in Brisbane for outstanding and extravagant Christmas light displays. Streets and displays are categorised as either Northern, Western, Southern or Eastern suburbs of Brisbane.

Southern Suburbs

Mt Gravatt - 14 Hathaway Street
Woodridge - 33 Rudge Street

12/33 Rudge Street, Woodridge

IMPORTANT NOTE - Streets and displays are based on last year's winners and notable mentions, since at the time of writing many have not yet entered the competition or finalised their displays. Typically however entrants and those with incredible Christmas lights displays do so year after year adding to their displays and attempting to outdo their neighbours. In the process this creates a slightly competitive festive yearly tradition. As a general rule of thumb where there is one outstanding house there tend to be others in the same street/neighbourhood as people are inspired by their fellow locals.

Readers who know of any other outstanding streets lit up with Christmas cheer are encouraged to share their local knowledge by leaving a comment. Merry Christmas to all Brisbanites out there and thanks to the households spreading Christmas festivity for all to enjoy.

Our street should be well and truly included in the list of worthy light displays to visit. Located in the southern suburb DREWVALE, Lawson Place is the place to come and see
