As much as I love reading and buying books, sometimes forking out $25 or more on a few hundred pages seems a bit much. On the other hand, borrowing books from the library can be unsatisfying because if it's a really good book, chances are you will want a copy of your own (and libraries don't take too kindly to people holding onto their books). The obvious solution is second-hand books, but Brisbane isn't New York. There aren't funky second-hand bookshops on every corner, with tables and tables of good quality bargains. So where are all of Brisbane's second-hand books hiding?
I love
Bent Books in West End – they have a great selection and the staff are super friendly and knowledgeable, but the books just aren't that cheap. For cheap books that are also good for the conscience, there are the
Cystic Fibrosis Bookshops and the
Lifeline Bookfest.
