What's Your Favourite Sci-Fi Show?

I was talking to a group of people about the upcoming Supanova 2012 and a heated discussion began about the best ever Sci-Fi show or movie. It seems that everyone has a firm favourite and they are all sure that their favourite is the best one.

Science-Fiction is one of the most popular movie and TV genres. There are so many good sci-fi shows and most of them are very popular and a lot of fun to watch. The fan base for Sci-Fi shows is very loyal and enthusiastic. Having a marathon showing of your favourite series is a great way to spend an evening or even a day and Themed parties are all the rage.

This all got me wondering about which Sci-Fi show really is the best, so please let us know - What is your Favourite Sci-Fi Show and who is your favourite character?

Doctor Who

Doctor Who is a British TV series which tells the adventures of the last Time Lord and his human travelling companion. Running for almost 50 years, Doctor Who is the longest running Science-Fiction Show in the world.

The Doctor travels through time in his TARDIS, which is larger on the inside, and works to help and save people and battle alien enemies such as the Daleks, the Master and the Cybermen.

The character of The Doctor is still a mystery and his real name has never been revealed. It is known that he is over 900 years old and is a genius, he is the only surviving Time Lord after his home planet Gallifrey was destroyed in the Time Wars, but his history is still not fully known and little details are being uncovered throughout the series.

The award running series is unique in that the role of The Doctor has had 11 different incarnations to date. The Doctor is able to regenerate and this allows for different actors to play the same character while giving the stories a different spin.

The Doctor Who series is fantastic and enormously popular. It is a very exciting series; it can be suspense filled, chilling and scary, funny and sad all at the same time and I must admit it is my all-time favourite.

Torchwood

Torchwood is a British Science-Fiction Series and is a spin-off of the long running Doctor Who series. The main character is Captain Jack Harkness, an immortal from the future. The series follow the team as they investigate incidents involving extra-terrestrials.

Red Dwarf

Red Dwarf is a British science-fiction comedy show. First shown in 1988 this is a very popular show, telling the story of the mining spaceship Red Dwarf in the 22nd century.

There is a radiation leak on-board which kills everyone except for a technician, Dave Lister, who is in suspended animation. After the accident the ship is sealed until the radiation dies down, this takes three million years, and Dave Lister is then released.

Dave Listers only onboard companions are the holographic life-form of his former shipmate, Arnold Rimmer, a life-form that has evolved from the ships cat, Cat, Kryten, a series VII service mechanoid and Holly, the ships onboard computer.

The series follows their adventures as they travel through space and they encounter various species that have all evolved from the Human Race.
