These are the restaurants worthy of your consideration in the CBD. They have made this accolade for a variety of different reasons: from the food to the service as well as the vibe and ambience of each of these establishments. What they can bring to the table (no pun intended).

A visit to the city (or even to enjoy authentic Thai food; not of the McThai variety thank goodness) is to make a visit to Red Spice Road at 27 McKillop Street Melbourne. The staff look exceptionally cute and swish in their black pinafore aprons, and the seating arrangements just feel so unconventional and vogue. We are talking a group of 27 of us around one table with the cutest circular white plates. Including a couple of glasses of red wine with a variety of meat dishes to enjoy, for only $25 a pop the value was just exceptional. It was a pity to be introduced to this restaurant on the saddest possible day: it was for the farewell lunch for my direct report in my corporate career; however all has turned out to be a blessing in disguise now as a freelance writer. Also Qantas Frequent Flyers earn points on their dining experience here.

Moving on, the next best restaurant would have to be Kings Steak and Seafood Bar at 209 King Street. Having dined here three times, the service has not disappointed me since. The signage outside devalues this establishment where they are selling themselves short. They try so hard on presentation. The ambience is beautiful, and the meals are so cheap. We are talking about $20 for a three course lunch and a glass of red to go with it. Their raw salmon is delicious; and I am a huge fan of their soups (why bother making your own soup, it is so much trouble otherwise) and not to mention their sticky date pudding also packs some punch. The second time I had the thai beef salad (at my farewell lunch this time when I decided to bid my corporate career farewell) there was too much chilli which was a tad disappointing, otherwise an awesome locale.

King Street is also very fortunate to be the home to Hibachi Japanese Grill at 230 King Street with authentic Japanese food with a group of people in our own private oasis. Needs to be visited at least once to be appreciated.

And the next best restaurant in Melbourne would have to be Kri Kri Mezethopoleion Greek Restaurant at 39-41 Little Bourke Street. I won't go into my verdict here as I have already reviewed this establishment. More can be found by clicking on the link here .

Last but not least; if Eat, Pray, Love resonates with you at the future end of Collins Street then Plus 39 Pizzeria on the corner of Collins and King Streets (the location on the website is incorrect) is perfect for a Friday pizza lunch with an abundance of cheese and great company. You have to be in the mood for it.

That is enough for now to satisfy your pallet in one of the world's most liveable cities, Melbourne. We have a lot to be grateful for. Bon appetit for now.
