Hey Melbourne, there are plenty of great ways to unwind in your city without needing to spend any money. The city of culture runs a variety of free events , yet there might be times where you will want to chill out in the city when no events are scheduled. These ideas are not necessarily presented in order of preference or popularity:

[SECTION]Federation Square[/SECTION]

Melbourne's meeting spot with ample space, and is home to many cultural events in Melbourne. However, you also have the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) Ian Potter Centre, as well as the NGV International in nearby St Kilda Road, not far from here. Art for many people in Melbourne is rather therapeutic, and both of these galleries provide some people some much needed time out to appreciate the many hours these artists have spent in creating these masterpieces for you. Federation Square (otherwise known as Fed Square) is home to free Tai Chi on Tuesday's. There is always a wealth of information available on their website, that is of the top free things to do here.

[SECTION]Parks[/SECTION]

The City of Melbourne is blessed to be home to many great parks. Alexandra Gardens, Treasury Gardens, Flagstaff Gardens and a little further out in South Yarra, the Royal Botanical Gardens. The grassed area outside the State Library of Victoria also provides a great oasis for locals to chill out, especially on a sunny day.

[SECTION]Yarra/Crown Promenade[/SECTION]

Although this area is just outside of the city, the Yarra Promenade is only a short stroll from Federation Square. A great walkway along the Crown Promenade area is a great way to soak in some of the city arty statutes, the Yarra River and the lights in the trees at night. Who knows, you might also come across some free (ideally you should pay) street theatre entertainment with funny magicians, and some fire torches that are owned by Crown.

[SECTION]QV Hidden Garden[/SECTION]

On during the winter months, the QV is home to a pop up sanctuary with swings, seats and larger than life games for people to enjoy in a heated garden. Also a great way to unwind in the city.

Please feel free to leave a comment if other ideas come to mind, of the top free ways to unwind in the City of Melbourne. Enjoy.
