Certainly Pets Paradise, Pet City and World for Pets are amongst some of the bigger pet stores in Brisbane but are they the best? Bigger doesn't necessarily mean better and when it comes to the welfare of your beloved pets nothing but the best will do.
The implication is not that bigger pet stores offer poor quality service. On the contrary, customer service staff in larger retail stores frequently have to work harder to service everyone's needs. This is mainly due to the ratio of customers to staff which can sometimes be as great as 3:1.
In a smaller, less renowned pet store chances are there's less customers when you visit. This means more staff are available to answer your questions and help you personally instead of in passing which so frequently occurs.
Pet stores like Pet Country at Slacks Creek offer that one on one quality service that keep locals and out of towners coming back for more. In operation for over 30 years, Pet Country have proved themselves to be one of the best pet stores in Brisbane because of the continued expert advice and personalised service they give to each customer. Their brightly coloured store hosts a massive range of pets and pet supplies. Dogs, cats, fish, reptiles, birds, small pets and some of the more unusual kinds like spiders and scorpions can be found at Pet Country. Located on 268 Kingston Road, Slacks Creek they are open 7 days a week (hours vary).
located at 467 Underwood Road, Rochedale is another pet store supplying a large range of animals and pet supplies whilst still maintaining great customer service. Open 7 days a week they are "the one stop shop for fish, aquariums, puppies, kittens, reptiles, rats, mice, guinea pigs and birds". A great feature of their website is the 'new pets in store' listing on their home page which details all the new pets that have arrived in store. Everything from Juvenile Bearded Dragons (for the lizard lover) to turtle hatchlings are available from time to time so chances are whatever your pet preference (common or not) you'll find it at Southside Pet Barn.
One tip worth remembering is not all staff in pet stores are qualified professionals in animal care and breeding. If you have an urgent problem or query about your pet's ailment or unusual behaviour it might be better to consult with your local vet first.

RSPCA World for Pets at Springwood - they have always been so helpful & knowledgable, even allowing us to "try on" items for our dogs. Also - Pet Barn at Burleigh are really good when we have food related questions.

One I've been to and I thought it was great was not quite in Brisbane. It's in Harbour Town at the Gold Coast, Pet Supplies Direct. They were great, dogs were welcome to come in to shop as well and the staff were really patient with my many questions since I no longer live in the state and only get a chance to go back once a year.

Brookfield Produce for me. Errol and his team there have a great and practical knowledge and wide range of everday and not so well known varieties of pets, pet feed, and products for any pet. Well priced, and worth the drive if you aren't local. I travel from Mansfield regularly and my kids ask when are we going there next.
