A great cake can truly be memorable. A bad cake can also be memorable, but for all the wrong reasons.

We here at WeekendNotes like our cakes and desserts, in fact there has been much discussion about cake shops, patisseries and bakeries in Melbourne; The French Lettuce was the top pick of Michaelie Clark (namely for it's vanilla slice), while Julia Hebaiter was quite found of Europa Cake Shop. And speaking of St Kilda's Ackland Street and cake boutiques, Kat Roberts explored some other famous Melbourne cake shops, such as Monarch Cake Shop, Acland Cakes and Le Bon Continental Cake Shop. Lisa Williams went beyond St Kilda in search of Melbourne's best cake shop - highlighting some of the greats such as Brunetti, Laurent, Le Petit Gateau, Hilltop Cake Shop and so many more. I think it is fair to say Melbournians are quite found of cakes.

So now it is over to you. If you know of a great Melbourne cake shop, bakery, patisserie or boutique, please let us know by leaving a comment below.

Larent boulengerie Patisseries

I love them, there's a couple in the city, another at Doncaster shopping town.
I always like their bagettes and the croque monsiurs are great (there's even a vegetarian mushroom option)
the little cakes are so pretty although a little pricy at around $6 each (for a teeny cake), but oh so pretty.
If you order the large coffee it comes in a soup mug, apparently this is the way coffee is served in France
The fresh bread rolls are only around $1 and perfect for lunch for a little person.
The doughnuts and pasties are yummo too.

I do quite like Laurent. I do know that there is one or two around Prahan and High Street that I like, yet I cannot think of the names of them.

The cake shop that was famous in Chapel St and now apparently closed is one I will miss. David Jones food hall also does ok.

Any of the cakes at Elwood bakery, I'm not sure of the name but it's of the corner of Ormond and Glen Huntly. All their cakes are delicious.
