The New York City area is known for its old fashion amusement attractions, and visitors have come from around the world to visit these parks or the site of some of the now defunct ones.
Applewood Orchard
Applewood Orchard is only open during September and October just in time for the best apples in New York. At Applewood Orchard there are wagon rides, apple and pumpkin picking, farm animals, music and face painting. The adults can enjoy a taste of the fine wines in the Applewood Winery. The farm store provides a place to purchase apple cider, pies, jellies and assorted gifts. The atmosphere at this farm will put a visitor in the mood for autumn.
Freedomland Freedomland was a theme park that opened on June 19, 1960 in the Baychester area of the Bronx. It was one of the most unique parks in the country in that the shape of the park resembled the United States. The rides and attractions were designed to tell the history of the United States. On Saturday, June 19, 2010 an event was held to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the park.
Medieval TimesIf you want dinner and a show, away from the hustle and bustle of New York City, come to Lyndhurst New Jersey. At the Medieval Times Dinner Theater you will receive a meal of chicken and ribs served by waitress in costumes. While you are enjoying your meal a show will be performed by actors dressed as knights who ride around on horses while carrying jousting sticks and swords. The storyline is that the knights must fight to the end to see who wins a seat at the king's round table and become his next knight in waiting. All of the fighting looks realistic but there are moments of light-heartedness.
AdventurelandAdventureland located on Long Island is a true amusement attractions with a twist. A person can purchase single tickets for the rides or a purchase a bracelet for $23 that entitles them to ride as many rides as they want as many times as they want. The park is open Memorial Day through October at 10am.
