Indian cuisine is so rich and varied, there must be hundreds of dishes, so selecting the top Indian Restaurants in Melbourne will not be an easy task. I'm sure everyone will have their favourite restaurant, so let's get straight to it.

I'll start with some of the recommendations from the Melbourne Weekend Notes team; Gaylord Indian Restaurant received top-marks from Sean Goedecke, Bistro 309, which serves both Indian and Italian cuisine, was also highly regarded by Sarah Muschamp and Haveli Indian Restaurant certainly made an impact on Cora Hodges.

As for other top picks, lets start with Red Pepper Restaurant, an acclaimed family run restaurant known for 'authentic' Indian cuisine. Always bustling with activity, Red Pepper Restaurant is a great establishment for a cheap and cheerful chicken and lamb dishes.

Another great Indian restaurant is LevelOne Restaurant & Bar. This is another hidden gem, and the menu features both Indian and Nepalese dishes, for example Aloo gobi, Nepali Goat Curry‎ and Nepali Chili Chicken Curry. Like Red Pepper Restaurant, this restaurant is also affordable with mains priced around the $15 mark.

One final contender is Tandoori Den, an award winning establishment which is notable for its namesake; Tandoori cuisine. Highlights of the menu would have to include Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Ticka and Burra Kebab.

If you know of a great Indian cafe or restaurant located in or around Melbourne, please let us know about it by leaving a comment below.

We look forward to your feedback.

Everest in Station Street, Fairfield. Even the Indian Cricket Team have apparently endorsed this restaurant (as shown on their menu). They home deliver, which is how we enjoy their cuisine.

ARYA, is a wonderful Indian Restaurant, that also does takeaways. The service is friendly and the food absolutley delicious. Their menu has symbols so that you can tell which dishes are hot and the menu has many yummy dishes to chose from. Whenever we go there, nothing is too much trouble for them. They are open for lunches and dinners, bookings a good idea, it's not unusual to see their restaurant full. Arya can be found at Amberly Park Shopping Centre, 10/101 Seebeck Drive, NARRE WARREN SOUTH,VIC - 3805 PH: (03)-97058305http://www.arya.com.au
