There's not many things more likely to get your stomach rumbling than that first whiff of a freshly cooked batch of hot chips. When cooked to perfection - golden, crunchy and served with a thick coating of chicken salt - these deep-fried delicacies don't last very long.

But where can you find Sydney's best hot chips?

Campsie Charcoal Chicken in south-west Sydney has an enviable reputation for producing some of Sydney's best chips, while hot chips are the signature dish of Red Lea Chicken in Cabramatta.

I've heard rave reviews about the fries dished up at Burgerman in Darlinghurst, while I know some people even swear by the fries at KFC.

But with so many charcoal chicken shops and local fish and chipperies right across Sydney, I'm sure there are plenty of hidden gems that are well worth trying.

I havent tried them yet, but there is a pub on the North Foreshore of Bondi that has truffle chips. That is one place I am looking forward to eating chips from. :)

I recently had a bowl at the Marlborough Hotel in Newtown. Crisp on the outer and sofft in the middle, they had a herb like crusty outer. Greta stuff

Cloudy Bay Fish in the Westfield Sydney food court have the best chunky chips in the world, let alone Sydney. They are crisp and hot and salty and just perfect! Also Charcoal Charlie's on Bondi Road have pretty damn fine thin chips.

The Yeeros Shop, Illawarra Rd, Marrickville. Best hot chips in Sydney. Hand cut on the premises. Old fashioned thick cut wrapped in butchers paper. Sometimes prone to excessive salting so ask for just a touch of salt only.

Red Lea at Cabramatta is my favourite place to buy hot chips from. The Chips are of decent size, what sets it apart is the cayenne pepper that's used for seasoning. Absolutely can't get enough of it.
