Greek culture and cuisine is very much at home in the city of Melbourne. Typical dishes such as Dolma, Tzatziki, Fasolada, Doner kebab, Souvlaki, Moussaka, Baklava, Tsoureki and many more can easily be found in Greek cafes and restaurants in and around Melbourne.

Top places to indulge in Greek cuisine include That Greek Tavern, located in Malvern. Here you can sample home-cooked Moussaka and Spinach pie or try a Lamb or Chicken Gyro. The menu here is simple and straight forward - not quite Melbourne's 'best', but a great suburban haunt for Greek cuisine - similar to Koutouki Cafe, located in Richmond. Also located in Richmond is the delightful Demitri's Feast. The cafe menu here features Rizogalo, Baclava French Toast, Wild Spanakopita, Mezedes Plate and many other Greek inspired dishes.

Hellenic Republic, located in Brunswick is another great Greek establishment. The moderately priced menu at Hellenic Republic features a range of traditional Greek dishes, such as Melitzana Papoutsakia (baked eggplant), Arni sto fourno (slow roasted shoulder) and Kotopoulo psistaria (Bannockburn free range chicken from the spit). Aspro Ble located in Melbourne City is also another top pick for Greek cuisine (try the Greek Island Goat Stew), as is Jim's Greek Tavern in Collingwood, particualrly for seafood dishes.

Remvi by the Bay in Williamstown! Their Gyros is sensational and the prices are pretty good too. Service has been 5 star since the new owners took over about a year ago. Nom nom nom nom. :)

Filhelini in Moonee Ponds has really good Greek food for that authentic home made flavour. The menu can vary according to the availability of ingredients.

Pireaus Blues in Brunswick Street - mid-price but absolutely fantastic - the saganaki (using proper kefalgraveria cheese) and the baked lemon lamb are devine!

Also, gotta do the family run Plaka Greek Restaurant in East Ivanhoe - on the corner of Lower Heidelberg Road at the top of the shops - great fish and baklava and friendly staff!
