Many caravan parks claim to 'pet friendly'. But it usually means you're allowed to bring your dog, but they're strictly on-lead at all times. Not much of a holiday for your dog.

But Best Friend Holiday Retreat isn't 'pet-friendly' - it's doggy heaven, human companions welcome.

At Best Friend, all sites - camping, caravan and cabins - are fenced, so your dog's not constantly on-lead and all sites are large enough for your dog to have a good wander around. Dogs are allowed inside all cabins, too.

But the real paw-puller is the off-lead play areas. With literally ten acres of parkland and gardens, there are six fenced off-lead areas including an agility course and communal dog toys and giant yoga balls. Or if it's warm, go for a half hour drive to off-lead Woodside Beach.

Should you need a little two-legged time, there are luxury day kennels kitted out with a TV/DVD, armchair and heater so your pooch can kick back with a movie while you check out the local scene. There's even a hydrobath for your use, too.

The owners clearly love dogs and it's the little touches that really make this place special - the toilet paper is dog print, and even the shower curtain hooks are little dogs. There are doggy-doo bags, tether points and water bowls scattered around the park so everything's easily at hand.

Best Friend Holiday Retreat really is a unique holiday experience for those who simply won't holiday without their dogs. Your dog will be pleasantly exhausted after your holiday - expect a very quiet and sleepy car road on the way home.

Be sure to book in advance as it gets quite busy in the warmer months.

Important: most sat-navs will try to take you through the Tarra Bulga National Park which has sections of narrow, unpaved roads unsuitable for caravans or campervans, so it's best to detour via Yarram-Traralgon Road.
