I'm an inner-city rambler who's happy to share my best finds with you. My writing turns up in the local street press, magazines, and more. (This week's pic: flamingo stencil, Rialto shops, Hardgrave Road.)

You won't find white tablecloths or fine china in Brisbane's food courts, but it is possible to find good food at great prices if you know where to go.

Among the franchises and the greasy takeaways are some noteworthy individuals who serve quality food to the masses, often seven days a week.

Over the last few months, I've been on a crusade to find some of these unsung heroes and let my readers know about them.

Big smiles and healthy food at Vege Rama
So far I've unearthed Yash Indian Cuisine in Broadway on the Mall, Vege Rama in the Myer Centre and FantAsia Asian takeaway, which has outlets in both Macarthur Central and the Myer Centre.

Each offers interesting, fresh food at reasonable prices, and I'd be happy to eat my lunch at any one of them.

I haven't yet been able to find anywhere inspiring in the food courts at Queens Plaza, Anzac Square or Post Office Square.

I also know that there might be a gem hidden away in one of the suburban shopping centres.

So, if you know a good food-court treasure that I haven't discovered, tell everybody about it. Put your comment below, and let's give the good operators the publicity that they deserve.

Harry's Cafe in Rowe's Arcade has a selection of well priced fresh food and hot food. I like the quiche which is around $3 for a large slice or the wraps which are a lot cheaper than everywhere else. Most of the hot dishes are the things we used to make at home like shepherds pie, lasagne, spag bol - all around $3.50 for a small serve. So much cheaper than everywhere else and its not a franchise.
