[SECTION]The Best Food in Adelaide When You're Hungry[/SECTION]

South Australia produces some of the best food and wine in Australia. Our organically grown fruit and vegetables are a cornucopia of colour. South Australian wines from Mclaren Vale and the Barossa are exported around the world. And our innovative food trucks and award winning Fork on the Road make it easy to enjoy by bringing the goodness to us. We have every reason to be proud of our food in Adelaide.

Sometimes though, it's more about quantity than quality. After a hard day's work (or a hard night out), there are times when you're left feeling ravenous. You know that a typical burger or serve of take away food will not be enough to keep the hunger pangs away. It's time for look for the best food in Adelaide when you're hungry.

We've already researched the top cheap eats in Adelaide , but they were chosen on value for money rather than size. This time we sent a team of starving students out looking for the filling, big meals in Adelaide: places where your hunger is guaranteed to be satisfied without breaking the bank. We found a mix of take away food restaurants, and hotel restaurants offering all you can buffet bars. All are guaranteed to give you a good feed.

Lawash Bakery on South Road Thebarton is legendary for the quality and value of their menu offerings. They offer hearty dine in or take away food under $15 which is enough for any appetite. Highly recommended are the falafel with salad and bread for $8, or the freshly made wraps containing 1 flame grilled skewer of chicken or beef for $5 (two skewers for $7.50). If you need any recommendation, just look at the length of the queues during peak hours.

The little known Burek Lounge also focuses on filling, hearty food in their menu offerings. Mostly a meat based menu, Burek Lounge prices have hardly changed in the last 2 years making them still great value. Also in the western suburbs is the Grill House Cafe , which has more menu choices and is slightly less traditional. Both restaurants have lamb on the spit available for times when your appetite is huge.

Noodle Smart in the Welland Plaza shopping centre on Port Road does a special that's good value for money - ten pork dumplings (steamed of fried) for $5, or if you're peckish then just double your order.

[SECTION]A Wing and a Prayer[/SECTION]

Die hard fans of chicken wings seem to think their addiction is almost a divine experience. I know that I religiously ate Morley's spicy chicken wings in London every Sunday after a session, but I doubt that it made me a better person.

A bucket of chicken wings is hearty food that's great value for money. After a big night out it can be one of the best foods in Adelaide to cure a hangover, or so I'm told. Benny's American Takeway Woodville has an ongoing special of 20 wings for $14.90, and also offers other take away food specials regularly on their Facebook page. Your choice of sauces includes Garlic & Herb, BBQ, Not so Hot, Hot and Really Hot.

The Gilbert Street Hotel is one of my favourite pubs in the south west corner of Adelaide. They've got lovers of chicken wings in a flap with their current wings special - it's so popular that you need to book to eat their flavoursome chicken wings every Thursday night. Just $10 gets you a kilo of chicken wings in a choice of five flavours, but be early!

[SECTION]All You Can eat Buffet[/SECTION]

The original all you can eat buffet in Adelaide started at the Buckingham Arms, and decades later it's still going strong. The Buck claims to have the first and best smorgasbord in Adelaide : for around $30/head you get an incredible selection of quality food. Soups and seafood, spicy wings and stir fries, salads and roast meats from the carvery, and desserts to die for - this must be some of the best food in Adelaide when you're hungry.

The Kublai Khan Mongolian Restaurant also has an all you can eat buffet. Just choose a selection of meats, vegetables, flavourings and sauces, then take it to the chef to be stir fried. As fast as you can eat it, you can go back for more. Great value at $22.50 per person (adults) and tasty fresh food from this smorgasbord in Adelaide.

Great River Korean restaurant also offer an all you can eat buffet in Adelaide on Gouger Street for $26/head. I haven't been yet, but it's on my to-do list.

You can find other Adelaide smorgasboards at the Snake Charmer Indian restaurant ($35), Charlie's Diner in Brighton, Civic Park Family Restaurant in Modbury, and at the Watermark Glenelg .

[SECTION]The Best Schnitzels in Adelaide[/SECTION]

Most people say that the best schnitzels in Adelaide are found at the Earl of Leicester Hotel and the Coopers Alehouse. At the Earl of Leicester Hotel you can choose between Wagyu beef and chicken breast schnitzels, with a choice of large or small size. They will set you back up to $27 but you won't leave hungry.

The Coopers Alehouse menu offerings include 300g and 600g schnitzels - I can't imagine that I'd ever finish the 600g schnitzel, but there are plenty of people who are up for these food challenges. The base prices are less than at the Leicester, but you pay extra for each mouth watering topping.

[SECTION]Value for Vegans and Vegetarians[/SECTION]

We haven't found any vegan or vegetarian restaurants offering an all you can eat buffet in Adelaide, but the Buckingham Arms has some yummy vegetarian platters included in its smorgasbord menu .

At the Market Shed on Holland there are many vegan and vegetarian food stalls, and the produce is all organic too.

In the suburbs the Cherry Darlings Bakehouse caters for vegans who enjoy meat flavours. Cherry Darlings menu offerings include a filling cheeseburger pie ($7) and a BBQ Ribz with Cheezy Macca Pie ($7.50) - if you're hungry why not try both?
