If you hop online to look at an events calendar for Sydney over the next 12 months, it's immediately obvious that there's barely one weekend that isn't taken up by a festival of some sort. From huge undertakings like
Sydney Festival to a never-ending list of small local events, Sydney has more festivals than you've had hot dinners.
But what is Sydney's best festival?
The experiences on offer at Sydney's many events obviously differs greatly. The above mentioned Sydney Festival is all about art, music and dance.
Vivid is another art and music event, most famous for turning the Opera House sails into a spectacularly-lit nighttime feature.
The Chinese New Year Festival offers plenty of culture and colour, while the
Greek Festival of Sydney is always good raucous fun. Music fans are very well catered for, with events like
Parklife,
Playground Weekender and
St Jerome's Laneway just a few on offer. Throw huge events like the
Royal Easter Show,
Tropfest and
Mardi Gras into the mix and you've got a calendar that's pretty chock-a-block.
And there's plenty of smaller community-run events that offer a great day out.
Eastwood's Granny Smith Festival is a family favourite, Leichhardt's
Norton Street Italian Festa brings a taste of Italy down under, and the
Surry Hills Festival always draws a big crowd.
Vivid Sydney lights up the city.
I'd also like to put in a mention for one of my favourites, the
Australian Beer Festival, held at the Australian Heritage Hotel in the Rocks.
