A significant sum has been invested to make Melbourne (our great city) all beautiful this Christmas, but is it really working? There is a Merry Christmas sign that is supposed to be up at Flinders Street Station, which is somehow delayed despite the City of Melbourne investing a massive sum of money for this glowing glitter. Let's hope it comes up before Christmas day.

The Christmas display at Swanston Street (which was occupied by Occupy Melbourne with an abundance of tents not too long ago) is attracting the crowds and feels like a mini maze, and the nativity scene is just beautiful; a timely reminder of what Christmas is really all about.

Also Federation Square is swamped with Christmas trees, which is also a treat with a band playing the Christmas carols occasionally. Not to compare with Sydney (the year before last, Sydney's Pitt Street Mall looked like a neglected construction site, while the new Westfield Sydney was under construction; that year there was no Christmas decorations along Pitt Street Mall) and despite Pitt Street Mall being more alive than ever, Melbourne is still pretty spoilt with the extra Christmas displays around the city in particular. Some of these displays are so simple, yet the displays at Swanston Street and Federation Square have involved some effort, and all in all the verdict is quite fantastic. What do you think? Has our great city done enough in giving us great public Christmas displays this year? Now its over to you to share your thoughts and opinions on this.

Fantastic comments, thank you so much. Will check out The Boulevard Lights at Ivanhoe: thank you for that. Agree, 333 Collins Street is a beautiful building with great decorations to match for Christmas :)

Thomson street, northcote has a much better display - there are only a few houses but i personally think that the main 2 houses in thompson street outdo the Ivanhoe boulevard lights.
