Woolworths and Coles own pretty much every bottle shop label in Australia, quite sad really. With both supermarkets pushing their own brands as well as the mainstream beers it's hard to find a bottle shop devoted to good quality produce. There are a few places left that do give you a pleasurable shopping experience.

International Beer Shop
69 McCourt st, West Leederville
Ph: 9381 1202
Facebook Website
Boasting the biggest range in Perth, possibly even Australia, at over 900 beers available you can literally spend hours walking around reading all the intriguing labels on offer. IBS prides itself on it's impressive selection of craft and micro brewery beers from all over the world.

When Coopers is the most well known name on offer you know you're in beer heaven. It's great walking into a bottle shop without seeing heineken or tooheys written all over the place. IBS stocks awarded craft labels such as Wingwalker (USA), Haandbryggeriet (Norway) and 8 Wired (NZ) as well as the best and rarest Australian craft on offer.

IBS have also recently installed a growler filling station, meaning you can buy 1L or 2L growlers of freshly tapped international craft beers, something that I'm almost certain you can not do anywhere else in Australia.

Botanica Liquor Barn
401 Scarborough Beach rd, Innaloo
Ph: 9446 2324
Facebook Website
One of the last large independent bottle shops in Perth. The Nookie (as it's affectionately known by the locals) has a very elegant wine display that'll make you feel as if you're choosing from a cellar door. They have a fantastic range of high quality wines as well as a large assortment of household names.

The beer list is great too. Once again, the big brands don't have favourable placement here. Little Creatures, James Squire and Monteiths are quite prominent names amongst two long isles devoted to premium local and international beers. Unlike IBS you can get mainstream beer here, it's all stacked up right up the back in true barnyard style.

Phoenix Beers
8/10 Dewar st, Morley
Ph: 9275 0955
Facebook Website
For anyone who prefers good quality imports over the tasteless Coronas, Heineken, Budweiser etc. you have Phoenix to thank - Phoenix beers are responsible for bringing some of the best names in world brewing to our shores.

Much like IBS, Phoenix fills the void of true international craft beer supply in WA. Popular names such as Wiehenstaphen (the oldest brewery in the world) and Sierra Nevada dominate the showroom alongside pretty much every 90 plus beer on Ratebeer.com that can be imported into Australia.

Phoenix also have regular free tasting sessions, so if you're interested in expanding your beer palate but don't know where to start this is is the place to go.
