Are you sick of doing your work in the same, dimly lit room? Are your uni readings making you long for death? What you need is a change of scenery, and I have just the place.
Berkelouw Books is located just off King Street and is a bookstore downstairs, containing an extensive collection of new, old, and antiquarian books and a newly installed Ramen bar. Upstairs, a loft has been converted into a unique café. The environment in the café is perfect if you're studying or working. It appears being surrounded by books is conducive to productivity. Who knew?
The coffee is best avoided, although at least it's consistently bad, therefore a reflection on the choice of beans and not on the quality of the baristas. The orange pekoe tea on the other hand is exceptional and best paired with their super cute gingerbread cookies.
Some 'sheepish' gingerbread
Every Wednesday afternoon at 4:00, is live jazz, courtesy of Transit. Unfortunately I am allergic to jazz, therefore can provide no testament of my own, but I have been informed by those who are better versed in jazz than myself that it's of a particularly high calibre.
So if you're looking for a change of scenery, live jazz, and gingerbread shaped as sheep, this is the place for you
