If you live in Bendigo or surrounding areas or visit the city regularly, you are lucky enough to have Bendigo Woollen Mills close by to satisfy your knitting passion. Top-quality wool, wool blends, alpaca, and cotton are processed into yarn and sold on site and online. An extensive range of knitting patterns, knitting needles and accessories, and knitted garments are also available in the Factory Shop.
Aside from a massive stock of yarns in the main showroom, there is also a bargain room at the back of the Factory Shop where you will find discounted lots of yarn. The bargain room is always open when the Factory Shop is open, so it is worth taking a stroll through to the back room to see what's there before purchasing from the front room.
One of the great things about Bendigo Woollen Mills is that they produce most of their beautiful yarns in large 200 gram balls. This is equal to four of the usual 50 gram balls that you purchase elsewhere. It means that once you have finished all the fun knitting-up of your piece, there are very few ends to weave in.
You can also take a tour of the factory to see and hear about the process that enabled some raw wool to become a lovely ball of colour for you to knit. A tour can be arranged by contacting Bendigo Woollen Mills. The site is also located adjacent to the Bendigo Tramways Depot, which is currently undergoing substantial restoration.
There is plenty of free unrestricted on-site parking, so you can browse for as long as the Factory Shop is open. The Shop does not appear to be wheelchair or pram accessible.
