Back in 1978, two high school buddies began selling ice cream at a petrol station after undertaking a $5 course in ice-cream making at Penn State University.

For Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield establishing their ice cream business was not an easy feat. You can read about their interesting story here.

All these years later, Ben and Jerry's ice cream is sold all over the world and, fortunately for us, it has has finally hit Australia.

You can find tubs of Ben and Jerry's ice cream in select stores across Sydney. The full list of locations is available here. The tubs come either pint sized or individual mini tubs, known as "shorty cups".

Alternatively head down to Manly for the Ben and Jerry's Scoop Shop. No day at the beach is complete without ice cream and Ben and Jerry's is a valuable addition to the ice cream on offer in Manly. Here you'll find the full range of Ben and Jerry's flavours (the ones that are available in Australia at least) right across from the beach. The two issues you'll face are narrowing down your flavour choices and spending a bit of time waiting in line.

There's also a Scoop Shop recently opened in Hoyts at Broadway Shopping Centre.

What makes Ben and Jerry's so special? A fun, cheerful image and approximately 30 tasty flavours.

Ben and Jerry's ice cream flavours are fun, but indulgent. Included in the numerous options, is Triple Caramel Chunk which is vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce and bite sized pieces of chocolate-covered caramel. There is also a chocolate ice cream, with marshmallow swirls and tiny chocolate fish, named Phish Food after the band Phish. There's Chocolate Fudge Brownie, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough as well as a range of fruity flavours like the banana flavoured Chunkie Monkey or Cherry Garcia and a sorbet named Lemonade Stand.

Keep your ears open because Ben and Jerry's sometimes hold promotions which involves free ice cream. For example, to celebrate the opening of the Manly store Ben and Jerry's were giving free ice cream to everyone who stopped by literally all day long (without a one serve per person policy).
