What a perfect location in which to open a Ben and Jerry's 'Scoop Shop' in Sydney, and just at the right time. Bondi will be in for a happier December, and this ice cream shop is located just right opposite Bondi Beach on Campbell Street.



Naturally on a humid day and at any store opening, this was one busy store, yet we were all served quite quickly. Thankfully for yours truly, a free scoop of heaven was just what the doctor ordered to calm me down. Today, another ice cream store has brought out the beats in a Ben and Jerry's decorated van, with the motto of what Ben and Jerry's is all about: 'peace, love and ice cream.' Perfect.



Pleasant staff with quick service. The decor in the store is fantastic, and for all of you Ben and Jerry's lovers out there, there are larger tubs in a fridge, at the back of the store, to take away. Why not enjoy a Ben and Jerry's picnic on the beach?



The decor is dreamy and appropriate. Naturally the cow is there, with happy farmers leading into a happy planet kind of theme. It is amazing how Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield have come a long way from when their first ice cream paradise was set up in 1978, in another area beginning with a B, at Burlington, Vermont, in the United States. This magic started thanks to a $5 correspondence course in ice cream making and a $4000 loan. Remember, back in the 70's these amounts were sizeable sums compared to now.



The difficulty is always in deciding on which ice cream flavour to choose. They all look so indulgent and decadent. At their new Bondi Beach Scoop Shop, a range of 21 different ice cream flavours (including sorbet) are there for the taking, as well as a new flavour called Maple Tree Hugger. The latter ice cream variety comprises of maple ice cream with a maple caramel swirl and brown sugar brownie chunks.



However, due to the stronger humidity, yours truly opted for the Cherry Garcia - a scoop of cool cherry and chocolate ice cream heaven. A cherry ice cream with cherries and dark chocolatey chunks. The problem was I wanted more. Divine chocolate chunks with a sweet cherry taste in quality vanilla ice cream.



A perfect location at a perfect time. Now there is another reason to come to Bondi this summer.
