Belly Dancing

The key to a healthy lifestyle is actually enjoying your exercise so if the treadmill bores you and abdominal crunches aren't cutting it, I recommend a Belly Dance. It's a fun activity with plenty of swaying and booty shaking to leave you feeling exhilarated and like you've had a good workout.

Gym clothing is not a prerequisite. Go for comfort and something that a very bright shimmy scarf tied around your waist may compliment. We can't have you hip swaying without trinkets of coins and noise.

The footwork is easy however there is a lot of jumping and moving across the floor so be ready for a good cardio workout. See this online demo. For ladies, it's almost like feeling like you're back at school with the girls learning a new dance. It’s also great for functions such as a hen’s party or birthday.

Bellacize one of Australia’s largest dance schools and a studio in Melbourne, has classes which also include Bollywood (featured in the movie Pride and Prejudice) and Burlesque (made famous by the Pussycat Dolls). All three dances are cleverly put together in a routine or you can choose a dedicated class. The teachers at Bellacize have a wealth of experience, along with outgoing personalities and left me feeling fit and entertained.

Jewel has been belly dancing since the mid 1990's and holds weekly classes in Hawthorn and can also be hired for events. She has also worked at Melbourne fitness centres, so you can feel confident that she'll provide an experienced yet fun workout.

Princess Jasmina is another experienced belly shaker. She runs classes in Albert Park at
AML Golden Sands Studio and has a well-deserved reputation.

Melbourne has grown a passion for cultured dance. Why not join in, have fun, and get fit at the same time.
