Behind the Red Curtain – Creative Development for 'My Love Had a Black Speed Stripe'

On Thursday, 26 March, 2015 you can link up with the 'think-tank' at Studio 188 , 188 Brisbane Street, Ipswich. During the Behind the Red Curtain session running from 7.00pm until 9.00pm you will take part in the actual creative development of a play in rehearsal. Admission is FREE and BYO food and drink is allowed.

The play being rehearsed is My Love Had a Black Speed Stripe which has been adapted by Brenna Lee-Cooney from the Henry Williams novel of the same name. This assembly of the cast forms a part of the rehearsal progression in preparation for the play's opening night at Studio 188 on Friday, 17 April, 2015.

As a Behind the Red Curtain participant you will join the My Love Had a Black Speed Stripe cast and director, Brenna Lee-Cooney, in conducting an open rehearsal with the aim to meld text, physical theatre, music and visuals (although the film projections used in the actual play will not be included) to create the production.

As a participant you will be able to offer possible ways to deal with the various scenes being rehearsed. In this way, you will be having your own directorial input to the creative development, as when you put forward your suggestions the actors will try your idea within the play's development. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to see how a Fractal Theatre production comes into existence.

The play chosen for this exercise, My Love Had a Black Speed Stripe, is an ideal subject. Regarded by many as a 'forgotten Australian Masterpiece' the play explores the dark obsession with cars evident in much of the Australian male's psyche. The vibrant total theatre production draws on elements of circus, mime, body percussion and urban street poetry, blurring the boundaries between dance, theatre and music performance.

Come along and put yourself into the middle of the action; join in the conversation to discuss the creative development of this exciting production. You will be able to see how different stages of development combine into the overall presentation and, most importantly, your own suggestions can play a part in the final production. You and especially your suggestions are an integral part at this stage of the creative development.

Even if you don't think you would be able to help come along anyway, sit back and soak in how theatre is created. Who knows, you might just discover a talent you never knew you had while finding answers to your own burning questions.

The session is FREE to attend and BYO food and drink is advised. A gold coin donation is appreciated and helps keep this great community/theatre interaction going.

For more detailed information check the Studio 188 website here , telephone on 3810 6100 or email [email protected]. This could be the afternoon where you make all the difference.
