Using local talent, a showcase of music, street art, light installations and food awaits at the BEAMS Arts Festival to enthral and entertain you. Now in its fourth year, 'Phenomena' is the theme for 2015, exploring the idea of 'new worlds' with multimedia works.

Sculptures and installations may emit sounds and may even make you feel like they are following you. Some will be suspended and others will transform beneath your feet. Over 30 different displays will have you thinking about their meaning.

The natural phenomena of a recent storm in Sydney will see over 150 psychedelic images projected, showing the disruption and cultural transformation of the city. Titled 'Cultural Rains', Amanda LeMay was inspired by the power of the event and its after effects.

Cosmic phenomena is represented in the abstract vision of Celestial #1 , where our place within the universe is looked at. Beric Henderson is the artist using a range of media to convey spiritual and philosophical concepts as well as scientific concepts.

Also look out for Frozen Flowers by Christina Tran lit underneath by LED lights, a graffiti wall with a 50m long mural that will be completed on the night, a unique 'Lava' display of bubbles made of inflatable latex filling a terrace house and office block in the Kensington Lane precinct, and hundreds of origami paper cranes illuminating the night sky at Chippendale Green. Another artist will also be running an origami workshop.

The interactive 'People Beats' will transport you into a magical world as you drum. Images and illustrations shine through projected textures where colours trigger rhythms, animation and film sequences.

Global warming is confronted with 'In the Heat of the Moment' by Adam Sebire, a sensory exploration using thermographic video imagery projected onto Greek yoghurt. This is a phenomenon that needs more awakening of the public and research to evolve so that we are able to continue into the future.

Another interesting phenomena, that occurred in 2012, was the spider plague in Wagga Wagga. A Spider tunnel has been designed by Francesca Ayling for children to crawl and run through, inspired by the fields which at first looked like they were covered in snow but were in fact covered by thousands of spiders and their webs.

Some amazing phenomenas are covered in this festival. Some you may be aware of and others you will have had no idea about. An interesting and captivating experience, this festival will be, but the installations are not all that there is to enjoy. Music abounds with Artefact providing a dream-like atmospheric sound, Botch House giving us a mixture of video game and modern electronic dance music, and Frieda's Boss showcasing popular reggae tunes from legend Bob Marley and Steel Pulse, a Grammy award winning band with messages of love and justice. Dance performances are another highlight where dancers are fitted with lights that react to sounds by DJ's and the energy of the dancers in DanceKool, and Flatline shows us dance and visual art merged to create a neon sketchbook.

Dining in the area features food stalls providing organic dishes, vegetarian meals, French cuisine, Asian food, ribs and burgers, gelato and fine desserts. Bars will be open with tempting cocktails and all your favourite drinks.

This free block party is brought to us by the consortium of Chippendale Creative Precinct and aims to raise awareness of the role light plays in our daily lives. It takes place in Balfour Street, Little Queen Street and surrounding laneways as well as in the public park Chippendale Green, within the Central Park complex. Getting there is easy using public transport. Catch a train to Central or Redfern and it's a 10minute walk or bus it along George Street and Broadway with stops outside the Central Park Pavilion and the Abercrombie Hotel, then it's a 2minute walk.
