'Bats go...?' Talk on Microbats with Walk at Dusk

If you have ever wondered about bats, come and join the Sturt Upper Reaches Landcare Group on Tuesday 22 March 2016 at 6.30 pm for a talk and walk all about bats.

Do you know what bats feed on? The talk will explain how bats contribute to the ecology of the area.

Led by Terry Reardon, the South Australia Museum's "batman", you will be introduced to several species of the local micro-bats. Terry will explain their lifestyles and habits enabling you to learn about the species native to the hills and how you can contribute to caring for their habitat.

Following a break with light refreshments, you will embark on a walk from the starting location at the Upper Sturt Soldiers Memorial Hall to the Landcare site to listen for bats with anabat detectors. Learn what and how radar is used for research into South Australia's bat populations.

You will get to see the revegetated area which has been set up by the Sturt Upper Reaches Landcare Group and learn how the group has tackled blackberries, gorse and broom while retaining the habitat of the resident bandicoot population. There will be a second talk on bat conservation following the walk.

Timed specially so that you can bring the family, join Terry and the Landcare Volunteers on this guided walk into the bush for a valuable educational talk that the kids will love!

Don't forget to bring a torch and your gold coin donation and support the work of a great conservation group. The walk is on a steep hill with a concrete path and handrail.

The Sturt Upper Reaches Landcare Group is a volunteer group promoting caring for land, water and the environment through public awareness, practical activities and connecting people with nature and each other.
