A cornerstone of the Sydney pub scene, The Bat and Ball Hotel is a place to enjoy a beer and a hearty feed after a day at the cricket or footy.

One of Sydney's most iconic pubs

Situated on the corner of South Dowling and Cleveland St Surry Hills opposite Moore Pk. The Bat and Ball is right near the greatest sporting grounds, so it stands to reason that it's the place to go after Test cricket, rugby league, rugby union, AFL, and one-day cricket matches. Recently featuring in the Australian tourism advertising campaign, the Bat and Ball is one of Sydney's most famous pubs.

For those who love their Sydney history, the Bat and Ball was originally built in 1929, and was first called the Duke of Cleveland and was always a favourite drinking hole for local sporting clubs.
In World War 2, when military personnel were stationed at the Sydney Showground, they regularly frequented the pub, and in a time of rationing, the beer supplies would run dry regularly. They requested Customs House to increase their rations in 1943 and again in 1945. The request was granted both times and the pub became an important port of call for locals and Anzacs.

If you're hungry, the menu has lots of good hearty grub. There are at least 9 beers on tap, guaranteed to quench the most wholehearted thirst, and there's a Happy Hour between 4 and 6pm Monday to Friday.

If you need accommodation, the Bat and Ball has a charming atmosphere with comfortable country style rooms and shared facilities. Each room has a TV, refrigerator, tea and coffee making facilities. There's a large communal lounge room with Foxtel and free internet, a big balcony and buses at the doorstep. If you just want to be close to the Sydney Cricket Ground, Aussie Stadium, Fox Studios or Centennial Park, it's a cheap nightly rate of just $25, or a single weekly rate of $100. It's almost certain that you won't find rates like that anywhere else in Sydney. For bookings, call 02 9699 3782, or email accommodation@batandballhotel.com.au

The Bat and Ball has all the usual Pub entertainment with drink specials on "Manic Monday" with $8 jugs of local beer, $1 pool and 2 for 1 drink offers. Tuesdays showcase up and coming live performers, and Wednesday is pool comp night.

If you love your sport, and your true blue authentic Sydney pub, then visit the Bat and Ball.
