Tucked away in the sidestreets of Tanunda is yet another of those secrets that Barossa locals try to keep themselves. This time it isn't wine nor cheese nor one of the best vanilla slices in South Australia, but rather it is the multi-disciplinary Barossa Arts and Convention Centre, a magnet for some of the best performing arts and shows outside of the city centre of Adelaide.

First opened in 1996 as an extension to the Faith Lutheran College, the Convention Centre has become a business enterprise in its own right and attracts many of the top acts to visit South Australia from musicians and comedians to circus performers and stage shows. The 2017 schedule for the Convention Centre looks busy and includes no less than 18 shows spread over the whole year.

The 2017 schedule is as follows :
**
  • Band of the South Australian Police, Show and Lunch (21 April)
  • Sista Girl, presented by the State Theatre Company (4 May)
  • Jade Hurley, Fundraiser for Cancer (6 May)
  • Mr Stink, Live on Stage (16 May)
  • Slapdash Galaxy, Shadow Puppets in Space (19 May)
  • Cole, Michael Griffiths Songs of Cole Porter, Show and Lunch (23 May)
  • Cirque Africa, 100% African - 100% Fun (24 May)
  • The Doris and Shirley Show, Show and Lunch (4 July)
  • Damien Leith, Roy - Hall of Fame Tour A Tribute to Roy Orbison (8 July)
  • Lee Kernaghan, Boys from the Bush 25th Anniversary Tour (12 August)**

  • **
  • Band of the South Australian Police, Show and Lunch (22 August)
  • Adam Harvey and Beccy Cole, The Great Country Songbook Volume Two (26 August)
  • Dracula by Bram Stoker, adapted by Shake & Stir Theatre Co (20 September)
  • The Popular Mechanicals, State Theatre Company (22 September)
  • Nick Parnell, Secret Songs (5 October)
  • Russian Imperial Ballet, A Festival of Russian Ballet (29 October)
  • Gina Hogan, The Christmas Belle, Show and Lunch (11 December)**

  • In the majority of cases, bookings are essential, with prices varying for each show. The Barossa Arts and Convention Centre is located on Magnolia Road on the eastern side of Tanunda's main street. Tanunda is around 70km north of Adelaide, or just over an hour when taking the Northern Expressway.

So why not make a weekend of it with a trip to one of the best wine regions in Australia, grab some gourmet food at the Barossa Farmers Market , stop at some iconic coffee and antique shops, have a helicopter or bike ride , take a scenic drive , visit the Sculpture Park , take in a show at the Convention Centre, and then a night in some of the many unique and interesting accommodation options spread throughout the Valley.

For further details on the shows, seating plans, parking details and meal options refer to the Barossa Arts and Convention Centre website , or to their Facebook page . For further details on accommodation and things to do in the Barossa, refer to the Barossa.com website.
