Barbara is an amazing story of a woman going through a life of punishment in East Germany during the cold war. This heart felt German film was very touching, as it showed human compassion at its best.

Nina Hoss plays Barbara, a doctor, who is trapped in a village. Her poorly structured apartment is constantly ransacked and her body is constantly probed if she is unseen for more than a few hours at a time.

She is then met by Ronald Zehrfield, who plays Andre, also a doctor at the hospital she is placed in. He is a good doctor but with a past.

Barbara's story is told at such a tragic time, but the film portrays that love can come from unusual circumstances. The producer and director of this film clearly understood body language and what true love really is and the action needed no subtitles in some scenes, as the actors' actions spoke louder than their words ever could have.
