It used to be so, so different. If you walked along Shoreditch High Street years ago, the street would have had one of the biggest theatres in London situated on it. Later this would have evolved, through demolition, into a street full of commercial premises, many of them shoe shops. It is out of one of these places that Bar Kick evolved.

Bar Kick is one of those places that grabs your attention as soon as you near it. First there is the array of table football tables lining one side of the wall. If you want to play on them, take note, they get extremely busy and are often reserved, so best to book in advance. Venture further into the bar and you get a real impression of the popularity of this place - there are big screens pretty much screening sport non-stop - football and rugby appear to be the leaders in the popularity stakes, but other sports get there airing based on the popularity of the customers.

The decoration is international in its broadest sense - every available space is covered in flags - large on the ceiling, small around the outsides, and though I haven't thoroughly checked, a large proportion of the worlds flags seem to be covered. One of my favourite features is the lifesize football player light, hanging from the wall and seen in all its glory in the gallery.

Then there is the main reason for coming - the food and drink. There's an international selection of beers, a range of cocktails, and a food selection quite Mediterranean in style, with an ever-changing list of daily specials.

All in all a great bar for the sports fans, though the football widows won't mind tagging along too!
