not crashing and damaging their vehicles.
Any driver ending a banger race with an intact, shiny vehicle would be deemed a complete failure. It's just not the way it's done in this sport.
The idea is to win the race, and on the way to the finishing line it's also a good idea to knock all the other drivers out of the way, hopefully bashing their cars to bits in the process.
Spedworth Motorsports are the main UK organisers of what they call 'short oval' races, which involve a mixture of both contact and non-contact types of racing.
Races might comprise the impressive National Hot Rods, 2.0 litre Hot Rods, Stock Rods, Rookie Rods, as well as a variety of Banger classes.
The very powerful, as well as funky looking, Brisca F1 stock cars also race at various meetings through the season.
London has its very own racetrack – in Wimbledon. Considered
the UK's top oval racing stadium, the 390-yard circuit has its pit lane close to the main grandstand, so spectators can easily enjoy all the action when the beat up cars come in for repairs, as well as the race itself of course.
Races take place on Sunday nights, though be sure to check
